Scenic full-day drive along Hadrian’s Wall to the Roman Army Museum at Walltown Crags with stunning 3D film telling the history of this World Heritage Site. To Vindolanda to see the excavations and artefacts including famous Roman ‘writing tablets’. Includes optional guided tour by on-site expert.

5 hour tour to this 13th Century castle, still home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. The setting for the Harry Potter movies, with beautiful formal gardens and fountains. Includes photo opportunity at Warkworth and a scenic drive through the Northumberland coastal plain and countryside.

3 hour excursion around the historic coastal area north of the Tyne. Castle, coast, communities. 1,000 years of history with a visit to the museum of the Tynemouth Life Brigade and Cullercoats, fishing community and home to a 19th century artist colony founded by the famous watercolour painter Winslow Homer.

Our 2½ hour tour of Newcastle Gateshead City and Quaysides shows the main sites in a city with over 2,000 years of history. Includes Stephenson’s engine works, home of the world’s first steam locomotives, and Georgian quarter with many listed buildings and places key to the history of the industrial revolution.

St Mary’s Lighthouse; Cullercoats village; Tynemouth Castle & Priory; Life Brigade House Museum; Collingwood’s Monument; North Shields Fish Quay; take a stroll along the riverfront, visit one of the Quay’s many bars and cafés. We return to starting point after approx 6 hours.

6 hour tour along Tyne Valley to Housesteads on rugged Whin Sill; a most impressive location on Hadrian’s Wall. Back to Newcastle to the remaining evidence of Roman occupation, and the Great North Museum with its outstanding collection of artefacts from all eras.

6 hour tour up the Northumberland coast, past the imposing Warkworth Castle, and on to Bamburgh. Then time for a traditional Fish ‘n’ Chips lunch and a look around the picturesque fishing village of Seahouses. Coming back via Alnwick we pass the castle made famous in the Harry Potter movies — don’t forget your cameras!
